Our meetings are held at 2:30pm on the third Sunday of each month (except for July, August and December).
We strive to have our speakers and their topics identified at least 3 months in advance.
The status of our Current Programs is given below. As the date for each talk approaches a more detailed description will be posted.
IMPORTANT NOTICES:
CANCELLATION! SEPTEMBER 17th TALK
After consideration of the forecasted impact of the approaching Hurricane Lee we are concerned for the safety of those travelling to the event and that there may be power failures at Ocean Swells.
With that in mind we have taken the decision to CANCEL the Athenaeum Society talk scheduled for Sunday September 17th. We will reschedule Jeff Chant’s presentation “‘Til Death Do Us Part: Why creating space for people to live before they die, matters.” sometime in 2024
Until further notice the following protocols will be in place for all talks:
Notification of postponement/cancellation due to weather
As a service to our members, the Athenæum Society of Nova Scotia will post on its website a notice of postponement or cancellation by 9am on the day of the presentation as well as sending the information direct via email. When a postponement is feasible, the new date will be posted. If you are in any doubt due to the vagaries of winter weather in Nova Scotia, please check before leaving home.

. Upcoming Talks Sunday 17 September 2023 Jeff Chant will present “‘Til Death Do Us Part: Why creating space for people to live before they die, matters.” Jeff Chant, CEO of the Halifax Hospice, will address the creation of grief spaces within our society and the importance that comes from becoming a more death- literate community. Using patient and family stories to examine our cultural level of comfort with dying, death and grief, he explains the delivery of end- of-life care for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and loved ones. You will learn about the programs, services and philosophy of care that has shaped the reputation that Hospice Halifax enjoys and why hospice matters as part of our health system.
