Our meetings are held at 2:30pm on the third Sunday of each month (except for July, August and December).
We strive to have our speakers and their topics identified at least 3 months in advance.
The status of our Current Programs is given below. As the date for each talk approaches a more detailed description will be posted.

Please note that the October Meeting will be held on the Fourth Sunday of the Month, October 26th due to schedule conflicts.
Please note that the November Meeting will be held on the Second Sunday of the Month, November 9th to better align the subject with Remembrance Day.
Until further notice the following protocols will be in place for all talks:
- Social distancing will be available for some seating. If you wish to use this capability, we recommend that you arrive early so that you can be suitably seated.
- We will not be having our normal coffee, tea and cookies at the end of the meeting.
Notification of postponement/cancellation due to weather
As a service to our members, the Athenæum Society of Nova Scotia will post on its website a notice of postponement or cancellation by 9am on the day of the presentation as well as sending the information direct via email. When a postponement is feasible, the new date will be posted. If you are in any doubt due to the vagaries of winter weather in Nova Scotia, please check before leaving home.

Upcoming Talks Sunday 26 October 2025 NOTE DATE CHANGE “Mindfulness and the Evolution of Consciousness” presented by Dr. Timothy Walker Recent evidence shows that the brain can grow and improve. This is called Neuroplasticity, meaning our brains change with experience and training. Anxiety, depression, addictions, obsessive-compulsive issues, emotionalvolatility, as well as many stress-related health problems, can betransformed gradually and improved with mindfulness practice. For thirty years, Dr. Timothy Walker, Ph D has worked to integrate mindfulness and the psychology of meditation into psychotherapy, education, and healthcare. Co-founder of the Healing and Cancer Foundation, he has worked with the Nova Scotia Department of Health,taught at Dalhousie University, Acadia University, the Counselor Training Institute and within the Shambhala community. Sunday 9 November 2025 NOTE DATE CHANGE “We Shall Remember Them: Honouring Our War Dead, 1918 to the Present” presented by Vice-Admiral Jim King (Rtd) How Canada has memorialized its war dead from the end of WW1to the present. All talks are held at Ocean Swells Community Centre in Northwest Cove, starting at 2.30pm. |
